The Five Hindrances
According to Buddhist tradition, there are
five main obstacles which block the road to spiritual
progress:
1. Sensual desire
2. Anger (ill will)
3. Sloth 4. Restlessness and remorse
5. Doubt
They are called "hindrances" because they hinder
and confuse the mind in many ways, obstructing its
development.
According to the Buddhist teachings, spiritual
development brought about through tranquillity and
through insight.
Tranquillity is gained by complete concentration
of the mind during the meditative process.
Insight is gained by becoming mindful of the
body, thought, and emotions.
